VARIEGATED CHALKING PINK
SWLFVG

Flower | Plant | Rating | Breeding
Flower
Size Medium
Form Good form with broad petals
Colour Typical magenta pink of A. swazicum.
Throat Deep purple, narrow throat with short clumped anther tails.
Comments Good flower form as with the regular Chalking pink but with the added attraction of slightly variegated foliage.
Plant
Form Plants are vigorous growers and tend to stretch if not controlled with judicious feed and pruning.
Leaves Long, narrow folded fuzzy leaves characteristic of A. swazicum. Variegation is mostly marginal with some leaves showing more color.
Other Attractive plant with nice foliage. Needs to be kept in check. Annual hard pruning to remove all green portions keeps it in shape and helps control spider mites, to which this plant is very susceptible.
Overall Conclusions
Collector An old A. swazicum selection, the only variegated one in circulation. (the botanical garden in Heidelburg had another variegated A. swazicum clone with better leaf color but I believe it is now lost- so is the plant I got from them)
Floriculture Too susceptible to spider mites to make a good commercial pot plant.
Breeding
Has not set seed pods so far.
